Electric Cooker and Hob Installation
How much does it cost to wire up a cooker?
If you're in the Spalding area and need to have an oven or hob connected which are like-for-like replacements for your old oven or hob, the connection cost could be as little as £75.
However...
Costs could vary based on other criteria, such as physical placement and fitting, and also the power rating of the appliances to be installed.
For example, is the power rating of your new oven or hob greater than the power rating of your old one? Here are some points which would need to be considered:
- I would need to ensure that the cable in your cooker circuit is sufficiently sized to be able to carry the larger current that your new oven or hob will draw, otherwise the cable could overheat and possibly lead to a fire.
- Historically the most common cable size installed for cooker circuits is 6mm2 which is usually sufficient for most needs. However, an increasing number of cooker installations require 10mm2 cables to handle increased current loads.
- The size of the circuit breaker at the consumer unit will also need to be assessed for its ability to handle any increase in current load. Usually a 32A breaker is sufficient, but sometimes it is necessary to increase the capacity to 40A.
- If it becomes necessary to make any such changes, the cost to do so will be provided in advance.
Testing and Certification
As part of the service, even for a like-for-like replacement, the cooker circuit will be tested to ensure that it complies with the regulations for safe automatic disconnection in the event of a fault.
